Springer sits in Colfax County in northeastern New Mexico, on the high plains below the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and near the Cimarron River. Founded in 1882 along the railroad and the historic Santa Fe Trail, it once served as the county seat and still carries that history in its streets and its landmark old courthouse.
